Hope for Healing for Kids Who have been Sexually Abused

Breakout from Marv Penner | The depth of betrayal of sexual molestation or exploitation is almost incomprehensible to people who have never experienced it. When this abuse happens during childhood or adolescence, it becomes a crucial factor in a person’s identity-formation process. In this workshop we’ll look at how hurting teenagers manage these deep wounds, and we’ll talk about immediate and appropriate responses. We’ll clarify the responsibility to report abuse when it is disclosed and talk about what healing looks like for a young person who shares his or her story with a trusted adult. Research tells us that this issue is likely present for one or more students in every youth group. Hope and healing are possible—especially when there is a safe place for youth to talk. Let’s learn what it means to be that safe place.
